When is the right time for a Kitchen Remodel?

Kitchen Remodel

You may want to do a kitchen remodel, but you’re unsure when is the best time to do it because of some consideration. Look around you and see what are the things that needs to be changed in your kitchen.

Many homeowners decided to whether they should remodel their kitchens based on whether their appliances are outdated, countertops are cracked or their cabinets are damaged. These concerns are what the eye often sees in the physical look of the kitchen, but there are many other reasons of why a kitchen needs to be remodeled, more important that cosmetic.

Bella Vista Bathware conducted a research on this issue and suggest the following considerations to help homeowners assess the current condition of their kitchen so they can decide if it’s the time for a kitchen remodel.

Enough Space

Look around. Are you content with the amount of space that you have in the counter, cabinet and the floor? The outline of your counter of the location of your refrigerator might be taking away useful space in your kitchen. If your answers to these questions is a NO, then it may be the best time to do a kitchen remodel. If you’re planning to replace your countertop, always keep in mind that a total of 158 inches of countertop frontage and 24 inches deep with at least 15 inches of clearance above is suggested in order to accommodate all uses such as the landing area, preparation, work and storage area.

Number of People

Do you have a higher number of people in your house compared before? It could be more children in the family, aging parents who moved back into the house, or even more visitors have an impact of whether the size of your kitchen still suits the needs of your family. If the number of people in your family has changed, it may indicate that you need a kitchen remodeling, but always think about the size of the kitchen in regards to resale value.

Children

Before doping any kitchen remodel, it is always important to consider the children you have at home. Depending on the number of children in your family and what their ages are, your kitchen may require remodeling. The design of your kitchen and outdated appliances may become harmful for your children. If you’re in the method of extending your family, then it is best to consider having more room for cooking larger amount of meals and lowering the cabinets for easier access to children’s food.

Additionally, keep in mind that microwave ovens must be placed 3 inches below the prime user’s shoulder, but no more than 54 inches above the floor in order to avoid accidents.

Efficiency

If your kitchen appliances are outdated, they may be costing you more money without you knowing.  Innovations when it comes to kitchen appliances such as dishwashers, refrigerators and disposals could save you reasonable amount of money and often worth the investment. For instance, buying a dishwasher with low energy consumption, delay the timer or half load button which will save both water and money.

Location

The location of your kitchen in your house will probably stay the same. However, big changes can be done by simply moving around small appliances. When doing a kitchen remodel, always think twice about the placement of the refrigerator, sink and stove.

At Bella Vista, we advise that before remodeling your kitchen, make a checklist of the main and minimal problems of the kitchen and take note of the features that you like and dislike. It is also advisable to talk with a designer, he’ll surely know how to suit both your needs and your style.
